![]() eDrive – Start up from a diagnostic partition If you have an Apple Silicon Mac, read this article for more information. If you have an Intel Mac, the eDrive and Protogo tools can help. Sometimes you need an emergency startup disk, or an alternate startup disk for testing your Mac. Without Checkmate running the backup run smoothly. So I suspected Checkmate to be the culprit but to stop it I was forced to uninstall it because of the lack of a Stop button. I'm a Synchronize user for many years and never encounter those type of issues (in this case my files are simple media audio files). Three times I stopped the backup, do the copy of these file by hand with no issues. * An error occurred while opening a file to be written.Ĭurrent privileges do not allow the operation. * An error occurred while creating a temporary file. Path: Sons XX:HR Wind_Gale_Force:HR_AMB003_WIND_GALE_FORCE_EXT:WIND GALE FORCE EXT in Wires Melrose 3 wind whistle MKH70.wav * An error occurred while writing a file. Here is a small part from Synchronize ProX log. The fact is that the "backup disk" has never been checked by Chekmate. I just tried to do a rather big backup with Synchronize ProX. ![]() I know the data must still be on that external drive-please, how do I get to it? I can go back and run the "Volume Structures" test, but get the same result as the first time. But, the volume remains grayed out and unmounted. It reports back that the Volume Rebuild Completed and "No Rebuild Errors Encountered". Then it always skips the next three bullets, gives a green bullet next to "Replacing Directory Structures" and "Rechecking Structures". I sometimes get a red bullet next to "Prechecking Structures", sometimes a green bullet, sometimes no bullet. I then go to "Volume Rebuild" under "Tools". It then reports "Validation Error Encountered". It only goes through the first stage, with a red bullet next to "Journaled HFS Plus Volume". In Tech Tool Pro the external drive shows in the list, but the name is grayed out-indicating that Tech Tool knows it's there but can't mount it. The first time I tried to remount the external drive, it would not mount. I then deleted the Photos Library on the internal drive. ![]() I verified that the photos copied over successfully and could see them in the Photos App. I had run out of room on my internal SSD drive and moved my Photos Library to that same external drive. I have a 1TB external drive that I've been using for Time Machine backups (Mac OS 10.10.5). PS> I attached the file three times but I don't see any recognition that it's been added to this post. Please advise whether I should demand new "valid" XML files from the scanner developer of if I should disregard File Structure's determination of those XML files as being "invalid." LSI Director Support, Software Test & Mastermaking While I don't want to say anything special about the tool you are using, I'm also not really concerned about the XML files situation as it is. In my supporting experience, such tools aren't not only unnecessary, instead often "repair" things that are not broken. The tools the operating systems themselves offer do suffice completely for system maintenance. Since the advent of OS X and Windows 2000, I'd advise against the use of such "helpers". when we were still with OS 7 and Windows 3. Well, in my past experience you couldn't really live without tools like Norton and others. ![]() There is just another software thinking our files aren't valid. So there is no actual issue with SilverFast. Here's a portion of the e-reply from the scanning company's engineer telling me to not be concerned about such invalidity. My inquiry to the scanning engineers follows it includes a screen shot of the TechTool Pro report findings. Concerned about their apparent "invalid status," I emailed the scanner software engineers to ask them to send me "valid" XML files for my scanner. Running File Structures on my main hard drive has discovered nine invalid XML files from a scanning app that I recently downloaded and activated. ![]()
